Couch Potato Privacy Policy
This policy covers Couch Potato, an entertainment tracker for movies, TV shows, and live sports, published by Mosaic Studio LLC (“we,” “us”), an independent software studio based in California, United States. It applies to the Couch Potato mobile apps and web app. For our studio-wide statement, see the Mosaic Studio Privacy Policy.
Couch Potato uses an account so your library syncs across devices, and it has social features, so some of what you create is visible to other users. We use no third-party advertising and no third-party analytics or tracking, and we never sell or rent your personal information.
Summary
- An account (email and password) is required; your library syncs to the cloud.
- Your username, profile photo, comments, and shared activity are visible to other users. Your email address is not.
- We do not collect your location, contacts, or advertising identifiers, and we show no ads.
- You can delete your entire account and all its data from inside the app, at any time.
Information We Collect
- Account information. Your email address and password (stored only as a secure hash by our authentication provider), plus a username. You may optionally add a profile photo, a short bio, and a favorite genre to your public profile.
- Content you create. Your watchlist and watch status, star ratings, written reviews, episode progress, the viewing venue you record, and your custom lists; the sports teams you follow and events you track, including notes, venue details, and anyone you record watching with.
- Social activity. Who you follow, your comments and replies, your likes, messages you post in live-event chat, and the activity shared with your followers — for example “watched a movie” entries in the activity feed.
- Safety records. The accounts you block, and any content you report to us along with the reason you selected and any detail you add. Reports are visible only to us; the person you report is not told who reported them.
- Diagnostic data. Standard server logs kept by our hosting provider, such as IP address and request timestamps, for security and reliability.
We do not collect precise location, your contacts, or advertising identifiers, and the app contains no third-party ad or analytics SDKs.
How We Use Information
- To provide the app's features: tracking, stats, and feeds.
- To sync your data between the mobile and web apps.
- To show your shared activity to people who follow you.
- To review reports, enforce our content standards, and keep blocks in effect.
- To secure the service and diagnose problems.
What Other Users Can See
Couch Potato is social by design. Your profile — username, photo, and bio — is visible to other users, and so are the comments, replies, likes, and live-event chat messages you post. Your ratings, reviews, and watch activity are shared with the people who follow you through the activity feed. Please avoid putting sensitive personal information in content you make visible to others. Your email address is never shown to other users — it is held only by our authentication provider and is not stored in the public profile table.
If you block someone, you stop seeing their comments and activity and they stop seeing yours, and any follow relationship between you is removed in both directions.
How We Share Information
We do not sell or rent your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for marketing. We use a small number of processors to run the app:
- Supabase hosts our database, authentication, and file storage. Your account, content, and profile photo are stored there.
- The Movie Database (TMDb) supplies movie and TV metadata. Your search queries are sent to TMDb to return results. This product uses the TMDb API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDb.
- Sports data providers — the MLB Stats API, SportsData.io, and TheSportsDB — supply scores and schedules. Requests to these services do not include your account information.
We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users and the service.
Photos
If you choose to set a profile photo, the app asks permission to access your photo library. Only the single image you pick is uploaded, and it is used solely as your avatar. The app uses the system photo picker and does not browse your library.
Cookies & Tracking
The web app sets only the cookies needed to keep you signed in. We set no advertising or analytics cookies and do not track you across other apps or websites. Because we do not track you, we have nothing to change in response to a Do Not Track signal.
Data Retention
We keep your account and the content you create for as long as your account is active. When you delete an item, it is removed; when you delete your account, its data is deleted as described below. Server logs kept by our hosting provider are retained for a limited period and then discarded or aggregated. Support emails are kept for as long as needed to address your request and for our records.
Your Choices & Deletion
- Delete your account, in the app. Open Profile and tap Delete Account. This removes your account, profile photo, library, reviews, comments, and social connections. Deletion is immediate and permanent.
- Edit or remove individual entries at any time from within the app, including deleting your own comments.
- Blocked accounts can be reviewed and undone under Profile → Safety.
- Access, export, or deletion by email. Write to hello@mosaicstudioapps.com. Emailed deletion requests are honored within 30 days.
Data Security
We use reasonable administrative and technical measures to protect information, including encryption in transit and access controls that scope your content to your account. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Children's Privacy
Our Services are general-audience products and are not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us at hello@mosaicstudioapps.com and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.
Your Privacy Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights over your personal information. You can exercise many of them directly: edit or delete your content in the app, delete your account (see Your Choices & Deletion), or contact us at hello@mosaicstudioapps.com.
California residents (CCPA/CPRA). If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect and how we use and disclose it; to request access to or deletion of your personal information; to request correction of inaccurate information; and to not be discriminated against for exercising these rights. The categories we may collect are identifiers (such as email and username), your account profile, the content and photos you add, and internet or device activity such as IP address and diagnostic data. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under the California Consumer Privacy Act (as amended by the CPRA). To make a request, email hello@mosaicstudioapps.com; we will verify your request using the email associated with your account.
California “Shine the Light” & CalOPPA. We do not share personal information with third parties for their own direct-marketing purposes, so there is nothing to request under California's Shine the Light law. Consistent with the California Online Privacy Protection Act, we disclose the categories of information we handle in this policy, describe how you can review, change, and delete your information, note how we respond to Do Not Track signals above, and post the effective date of any changes.
EEA, UK & Switzerland (GDPR/UK GDPR). If you are located in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, Mosaic Studio LLC acts as the data controller for the personal information described in this policy. Our legal bases for processing are: performance of a contract (to provide the App and account you sign up for); our legitimate interests in securing, maintaining, and improving the Services; your consent, where we ask for it (such as camera or photo access); and compliance with legal obligations. You have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to processing of your personal data, and to data portability, where these rights apply. You may also lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority. To exercise these rights, email hello@mosaicstudioapps.com.
International Users
We are based in the United States, and the information described here may be processed in the United States and other countries where we or our service providers operate. Where we transfer personal data internationally, we rely on appropriate safeguards as required by applicable law.
Third-Party Links
Our Services may link to or interoperate with third-party sites and services, such as the Apple App Store or Google Play. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those third parties, and we encourage you to review their policies.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Effective” date above. For material changes, we will take reasonable steps to provide additional notice. Your continued use of the Services after an update takes effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
Governing Law
This policy and any dispute relating to it are governed by the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles.
